This introductory-level, continuing education course introduces design professionals, building officials, and others to key concepts about the benefits of disaster-resilient design. The focus of this course is the rationales for and methods to achieve disaster-resilient new construction, because earthquake and other natural hazard vulnerabilities may exist even in structures built to our modern codes.

Viewers will be introduced to several examples of new construction projects for public, private, and non-profit clients that all provide high assurance of post-earthquake functionality. The course format includes a 20-minute professionally produced video that combines interviews with subject matter experts, exciting examples, and actionable information about the state of the art in resilient building design.

Following the video, you’ll hear a lively panel discussion with stakeholders who are turning the concepts you hear about in the video into reality.

  • Lance Hastings – President and CEO, CA Manufacturing and Technology Association
  • David Mar, SE – Owner, Mar Structural Design
  • Maryann Phipps, SE – President, Estructure
