This is a 60-minute AIA Continuing Education Registered Course that introduces architects to key earthquake-vulnerable building types common in the U.S. and the concept and benefits of performance-based design. Content is presented through two 20-minute professionally produced videos that combine expert interviews with examples of both new construction and seismic retrofits of existing facilities.
The case studies presented demonstrate that cost-effective mitigation of natural hazards is increasingly possible and desired. Course participants will come away with increased understanding of how investing in disaster resilience benefits owners, communities, and the environment, and how resilient design makes good business sense for many architects and their clients.
